Dhofar 1289 Meteorite – Rare L4 Chondrite from Oman - Description language - French

The Dhofar 1289 meteorite is a low-iron ordinary chondrite (L4), discovered on March 12, 2004, in the Dhofar region of Oman. This region is famous for its meteorite finds, thanks to its arid conditions that help preserve extraterrestrial materials.

Dhofar 1289 has a total weight of 37 kg and consists of multiple fragments. It has undergone mild shock metamorphism (S2) and moderate to high terrestrial weathering (W3/4), indicating a long history on Earth.

Mineralogical analysis reveals the presence of olivine (Fa24.7), pyroxene (Fs21.3), and wollastonite (1.5 mol%), with a well-preserved chondrule-rich texture that provides key insights into early solar system formation.

This scientifically significant and collectible specimen is a valuable addition to any meteorite collection.
