Irgizites - Kazakhstan
The Irgizite deposit is located in the remote and sparsely populated southwestern region of Kazakhstan, in the Aktobe region near the village of Irgiz. The asteroid impacted about 900,000 years ago and formed the 2 km deep Zhamanshin crater (inner ring diameter 7 km, outer ring diameter 14 km). Today's altitude does not exceed 200 m. Like Darwin's tektites, the irgizites are located on the rim of the crater.
The irgizites are fascinating because of their shape and their outstanding intense brilliance. Although black on the surface, they can appear green, yellow and orange on thin layers or edges.
