Lunar meteorite Bechar 006 weighing 2.599 grams More
Bechar 006 is a rare lunar meteorite, specifically a feldspathic breccia, found in Bechar, Algeria in 2022. This meteorite is a fragment of the Moon, ejected by an impact event and later landing on Earth.
Bechar 006 exists in two visual variations – surface-found samples have light brown exteriors, while buried ones exhibit whitish exteriors with orange caliche. None of the stones have a fusion crust. Internally, the meteorite is predominantly gray, with dark gray and white clasts and some visible metal grains.
It is composed mainly of plagioclase, pyroxene, and olivine, with a matrix that partly represents a crystallized melt. This specimen is scientifically significant due to its composition and structural characteristics, which match lunar rocks.
