The Al Haggounia 001 is a rare achondrite meteorite of the aubrite type, discovered in 2006 in Morocco. This exceptional meteorite is one of the largest recovered specimens of its kind, with a total mass exceeding 3 metric tons.
Its exterior features a distinctive rusty brown coloration due to extensive weathering, while the interior is bluish-gray, transitioning to rusty brown near fractures. The meteorite has a brecciated structure, cemented by iron oxide and carbonate.
Mineral Composition:
The meteorite consists primarily of enstatite and plagioclase, with minor phases including troilite, graphite, daubreelite, oldhamite, silicon-rich kamacite, and schreibersite.
Thanks to its unique composition and history, Al Haggounia 001 is a remarkable specimen for both meteorite collectors and scientific research.
