On February 15, 2013, a very bright meteor shone in the morning hours over Chelyabinsk, Russia, and subsequently exploded over the Earth's surface. The resulting pressure wave blew out thousands of windows in buildings within a radius of several kilometres.
Pieces ranging in mass from a few grams to 570 kg were found, the main piece that fell into nearby Lake Chebarkul. It was pulled out in October 2013.
It is a stone meteorite - chondrite, type LL5.
